Forecast Discussion

Registrarion for the 9th Southern New England Weather Conference is now open. It is again being held at the Dexter/Southfield School in Brookline, MA Mark your calendar for Sat. Oct. 25th. Visit  www.sneweatherconf.org.for info or to register online. Students, Teachers, Meteorological Professionals and weather enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.

High pressure is building into New England. This has delivered a refreshing air mass, however, it will be autumn-like for one more morning. Dewpoint temperatures are in the 40s and low 50s. That is very dry air and our morning low temperatures  will be near 50 in the colder valleys away from the Connecticut river.

We'll begin to warm Thursday and by Friday we'll have a hot dry day with highs
in the upper 80s. It becomes humid over the weekend with the next chance of
thunderstorms Sunday eve and early Monday.

Hurricane Fay is meandering over Florida. It has exited the east coast, and is expected  to move westward across Florida again. A tough storm to forecast beyond a day or two. We'll enjoy a great weather pattern this week. Our next cold front moves through Sunday night or early Monday  with clouds and scattered showers and thunderstorms. Until then, we'll have plentiful sunshine.

The Jet Stream, those upper steering winds will move northward late this week and this weekend as a large area of high pressure sits over the eastern seaboard. This will allow warmth to build east of the Mississippi. You can be thankful for this high pressure ridge for keeping Fay's moisture from heading our way. Make those outdoor plans, we're losing 3 min. of daylight each day as we head toward the autumnal equinox on Sept. 22nd.

Remember, you can monitor the weather as-it-happens, by looking at the continually updated "Forecast Center", as well as observations and maps in our "Current Conditions" center. And, you can tune into our 24-hour online webstream "WeatherNow". As always, if you have any observations or weather photos of your own, you can send them in!
